Some Cool Scuba Diving Gear You Might Want To Try

Scuba diving gear is essential for a fun and safe diving experience. Standard scuba gear includes a compressed air tank. This tank contains a large quantity of atmosphere compressed into a small space, allowing the diver to breathe underwater. A mask is needed for proper underwater vision and to keep track of fellow divers. The diving regulator of the scuba diving gear transforms the high pressure air into a breathable pressure. Swim fins allow you to move farther and faster than feet alone. There are many other types of scuba diving gear you can use during your dives.

Consider adding an underwater camera or video camera to your scuba diving gear. Scuba diving on famous coral reefs, such as the Great Barrier Reef, will expose you to some of the most vivid sights and colors you have ever seen. Why not capture those images so you can relive your dive later? Waterproof cameras or video units are available for sale or rent, and can be easily used once you master your basic scuba diving gear.

Determine what the water temperature will be at your diving destination before you leave. You might need to add a wetsuit or drysuit to your scuba gear. You lose body heat underwater about 25 times faster than you do in air. Cold water temperatures can turn an otherwise pleasant dive into a shivering experience. Wetsuits and drysuits are types of flexible full body insulating suits you wear with the rest of your scuba diving gear. Both types of suits insulate you from cold water and let you enjoy your dive.

For a really fun experience, add a driver propulsion vehicle (DPV) to your scuba diving gear. This is also called a scooter, and you can probably rent one at your diving destination. It is a small motorized device that propels you through the water faster than you can swim. You steer by grasping the handles and being pulled along. Using a scooter is much less tiring than swimming while wearing a full load of scuba diving gear. Unless everyone in the dive group is using a scooter, be careful not to drive out of sight of your group.

There are countless gauges, dials, and gadgets that scuba divers can buy or rent to enhance their underwater experience. Whichever scuba diving gear you choose, learn how to use it safely before you enter the water.
